As the funding and controlling entity, Danbury ISD is responsible for the supply and maintenance of all hardware, peripheral equipment, and cabling. The school district has total control over these items. While this equipment is for the use of DISD students in an instructional setting, we reserve the right to bar any student from using the equipment if that person has stolen, misused, or abused our computer system. With this in mind, we have set out guidelines for students to follow. Danbury ISD staff members shall report to the building administrator or the Technology Director any incidents of unauthorized or unacceptable access or use, to include the names of those responsible.
1. A student cannot install, remove, alter, or copy a copyrighted program from the network or hard drive from any district computer. Installing or copying this type of software is illegal. Any student caught in this endeavor will be reported to the proper authorities.
2. A student cannot install, remove, alter, or copy freeware or shareware programs from the network or hard drive from any district computer. While installing or copying this type of software is not illegal, we feel this is not appropriate behavior for our students. The network is designed for specific instructional programs and is not a playground for student games.
3. A student shall not, for any reason, alter (either physically or electronically), damage, or destroy any computer, network, or associated technology. Vandalism will be reported to the police. The user will be held monetarily responsible for the damage or destruction of any computer, network, or associated equipment.
4. A student will not try to break into our computer network under any circumstances. Any student caught in this endeavor will be reported to the police.
5. All files and programs on the computers or file servers belong to someone. Users shall not erase, rename, or make unusable anyone else's files or programs. Users shall not attempt to discover or use another user's password, either at Danbury ISD locally or at a remote location.
6. Users shall not authorize anyone else to use their name, login, password, e-mail account, or files for any reason.
7. Users shall not intentionally write, produce, generate, copy, propagate, or attempt to introduce any computer code designed to self-replicate damage, or otherwise hinder the performance of any computer's memory, file system, or software (such software is often called a virus).
8. Users shall not deliberately use the computer to annoy or harass others with unacceptable language, images, or threats. Users also shall not deliberately access any unacceptable, obscene, or objectionable information, language, or images.
9. Comply with all existing school board policies as they may be interpreted to apply to technology resources, including but not limited to the following: Students: Student Discipline and Religious, Racial, and Sexual Harassment/Violence Policies.
10. Acceptable use consistent with the mission of the Danbury Independent School District:
· Use that encourages efficient, cooperative and creative methods to perform the users' job duties or educational tasks.
· Use related to instructional and other support activities considered consistent with the mission of the district.
· Use of district technology resources for authorized and appropriate access to voice, video, and data systems, software or data, both locally and at other sites.
11. Unacceptable
· Providing, assisting in, or gaining unauthorized or inappropriate access to the district's technology resources, including any type of voice, video, or data information server.
· Activities that interfere with the ability of students/staff members to use the district's technology resources or other network connected services effectively.
· Activities that result in the loss of another student/staff member's work or unauthorized access to another student/staff member's work.
· Distribution of any material in such a manner that might cause congestion of the voice, video, and data networks.
· Distribution or collection of obscene, abusive or threatening material via telephone, video, electronic mail, Internet or other means.
In order to make sure that all members of the Danbury ISD community understand and agree to these rules of conduct, Danbury ISD asks that you and a parent/guardian sign the following statement:
I, ________________________________, have read and understand the Danbury ISD Guidelines for (Print student name) Acceptable Use of Computers, Software, and Networks. I will abide by them in letter and spirit, and understand that violating them will result in disciplinary action by the school, up to and including expulsion.
I understand that property rights to any software created will belong to the developers with credit given to all individuals involved, with the name Danbury ISD prominently listed, and with free and unrestricted license and use by Danbury ISD employees and students.
I also understand that Danbury ISD does not warrant that computers or networks will be error-free or uninterrupted; nor shall it be liable for any direct or indirect, incidental, or consequential damages (including lost data, information, or profits) sustained or incurred in connection with the use, operation, or inability to use the computer/network or related technologies
Your child has been selected to participate in the District's electronic communications system and needs your permission to do so. Your child will be able to communicate with other schools, colleges, organizations, and individuals around the world through the Internet and other electronic information systems/networks
The Internet is a network of networks. Through the District's electronic communications system, your child will have access to hundreds of databases, libraries, and computer services all over the world.
With this educational opportunity also comes responsibility. It is important that you and your child read the District Acceptable Use Policy. Inappropriate system use will result in the loss of the privilege to use this educational tool.
Please note that the Internet is an association of diverse communication and information networks. It is possible that your child may run across areas of adult content and some material you might find objectionable. While the District will take reasonable steps to preclude access to such material and does not encourage such access, it is not possible for us to absolutely prevent such access. Parents will be notified in the event that their child has found inappropriate material on the Internet.
Please return this agreement form indicating your permission or denial of permission for your child to participate in the District's electronic communication system.
____ My child HAS permission to use the Internet.
