Summaries of Videos for Elementary School Students

The following videos are available for checkout from the Elementary Counselor.

 

Songs for Peacemakers                         Kindergarten

A creative way to teach students how to manage their anger and solve conflicts.  The music is contemporary, consisting of rap, reggae, rock ’n’ roll, and pop with catchy lyrics. Students learn how to be powerful without being violent.

Cassette tape, video tape, words, and follow-up activities in a notebook.

 

Resolving Conflicts                                  1st Grade

In addition to learning to resolve conflicts, viewers will see that everything they do involves choices and that they have the power within themselves to make the best choices. The program is divided into 3 segments – a skit, a discussion with school children, and a second skit. A teacher’s and a parent’s guide are included with the video.

BullySmart                                                  3rd Grade

Features ordinary children and teaches children to effectively use a 4-step safety system to deal with bullies. A recent national study concludes that nearly one of two children go to school each day fearing a bully.

Endorsed by top crime fighters as arming children and adults with  straightforward options to deal with potentially violent situations.

 

Violence Prevention: Bullying Isn’t for Hummers Either 1st-3rd Grades

Both the bully and the bullied can talk about problems in a non-threatening atmosphere, gain insight, and build a healthier self-esteem. Close-up photography reveals intriguing scientific facts about hummingbirds, honeybees, cheetahs, robins, and giraffes.

Includes discussion questions and reinforcing activities. Useful for incorporating into science curriculum.

 

Anger: Dealing with Anger and Cool, Calm, & Collected             4th Grade

Dealing with Anger: Students learn to define and identify sources of their own anger, where it comes from, what situations are most likely to arouse it, and the difference between justifiable and unjustifiable anger.

Cool, Calm & Collected: Students will observe and learn the keys for a) responding to angry people, and b) resolving their own anger. Students will discover that it is possible to stay under control and stop anger from becoming dangerous by working out angry feelings.

Two videos with teacher manual. Each program can stand alone without the use of the other lessons.
